Happy Spring!

The sweetest of seasons could not have come soon enough for me, and I tonight I celebrate with my peeps in true magnificent style. There will be toasting, and feasting, and burning in effigy, and solemnly swearing to never again spend a full winter in the city without running away. To somewhere warm. Where pool boys run free with arm-fulls of champagne cocktails. And they all look like that babe from Lost Girl. Sigh.

It's not that I didn't enjoy my first full Torontonian winter. I've been so loving my time here and appreciating the simple act of staying in one place. What a novel concept. Not to mention, three months of flamenco dance classes later ... I think I might be getting somewhere! I'd guess that throughout the course of this past season I've attended 20 dance classes, made 30 pots of stew, polished off 40 bottles of red wine, and watched at least 50 classic films. If not 99. And had at least 100 bubble baths.

Now that's a winter resume a girl can be be proud of.

And speaking of bubble baths .... glug glug.

Toronto, ON

It is winter here at last in dusty white Toronto! Brrrrr. I've been hibernating away in my warm Sweetlandish sanctuary avec faux fireplace, gingery beverage and steaming pot of soup. It's been so wonderful to have time off to rest, breathe, think, work and organize my life. All in preparation for the next phase. Be expecting a new album from Captain Dirt & The Skirt in 2011! As well, there are plans for another Kristin Sweetland solo recording, so stay tuned ... Also in the works is a book of Sweetlandish photography, and a mysterious new writing project. More exciting details tba in the New Year!

Until then, keep warm and cozy.

Love,

It was a foggy night in hogtown to be true! I spent much of it up on my high perch above the street, watching the mist roll in ... But I simply could no longer contain myself. I had to venture out in it. Wandered down to the Distillery where I grabbed a few sweet shots of that gloriously heinous still effigy in Trinity square. It proved far more attractive dressed in pea soup than sunlight. After that I proceeded to secretly invite myself to a party full of well-dressed strangers. Then I went home. Quel Saturday night.

Bonsoir from late-night London-town. Me, myself and the mini dog have been doing some important post-tour laundry, working on our photographs and plotting the glory of our coming weekend! Not to mention, catching up on all our favourite TV shows that my parents' PVR was kind enough to record for me while I was away. Um ... season finale of House anyone? I'm so gonna watch that again. And again.

On the morrow I head back to Toronto for some May Two-Four fun with the girls. I suspect there will be barbecues. And bikinis. And roof-tops. And ferry rides. And beer in a can! We can only hope.

God save the Queen!

Happy May Day from grey and lovely Torontonia! Woke up at a reasonable hour ce matin and enjoyed a delicious Beltane champagne brunch at Eddie Levesque's. Mmmmmm. Fontina cheese and truffle oil scramble ... 4ever! Tonight, I'll be celebrating my very favourite ancient pagan holiday with a special concert in the Fleishman Gallery @ Wonderworks. Come early for a screening of my newest "Adventures in Sweetland" video. Wine, cheese and fairy cake reception to follow. Obviously. And perhaps we can even scrounge up a Maypole ....

Love & honey,

It's been a November bender of fun in the big smoke of Toronto. Came in spontaneously last Thursday to play the Open Door Festival of Music benefit at the Mod Club with Lyndell Montgomery. It was AMAZING! I had so much fun and officially love being a guitar slingin' sideperson. More please! Stuck around town this week for so much good music I don't even know where to start. Had wicked fun at the Dakota for the weekly Beauties gig. Have been hearing of their deliciousness forever and finally made it out a show! It's not very often that I go to a bar for one just drink and end up staying for three sets ...Yeow.

This weekend I got treated like a princess by my friend Selena and taken to the Aboriginal Music Awards and seriously rockin' afterparty at the Opera House. It was hosted by Raven and Shoshana from Digging Roots, two of my beautiful friends and such brilliantly talented performers. They bloody ROCKED! As well, major kudos to Tanya Tagaq who eternally blew my mind, and Stevie Salas for teaching that green sparkly electric guitar a lesson it won't soon forget.

I am so inspired .... sigh. x

Congratulations American friends! We celebrated Barack Obama's historic victory tonight watching Amy Ray
and her brilliant band at the Mod Club. Amy has been one of my musical heroes forever and it was so great to see her play live again! It made me happy like I haven't been since I was seventeen ... The sweeping presidential victory and the whiskey didn't really hurt either.

It's been such an amazing five days in Toronto this visit. Way too much fun has been had with my girls! Here for another day and then off to London for a show at the APK this weekend. Hope to see you there. More Sweetlandish musical news coming soon on all fronts ... Exciting things are afoot in my world like never before.

Stay tuned, kittens, it's getting hot ....
