April 15, 2011
London, ON

Bonsoir from the depths of my deep dark chambers. I've left the big city for a good spell in the name of the Sweetlandish suburbia of my youth ... My mom just got out of the hospital after bravely undergoing a full knee replacement. She's doing really well and I'm so inspired by her strength and brilliant attitude. My job right now is fetcher of snacks, walker of dog, freezer of ice packs, and cleaner of my childhood room (the aforesaid deep dark chambers.)

Besides many long walks along dark, creepy hospital corridors I've been spending most of my time out of doors soaking in the spring sunshine. Ursa the family beast and I have been hauling it through the forest every day and I am blowing out the winter ghosts from every last molecule of my being!

Tonight, after the very victorious Operation Dustbunny, I've settled into a pillow pile with a glass of whisky and a stack of my old diaries. I play this little game with myself every once in a while called "this day in history." Here I go back and read old journal entries from the current date in any/all previous years. Always highly entertaining. Right now I'm back in April 2000, writing screenplays, making wishes and plotting my illustrious future...

And the rest, gentle readers, is still a secret.

March 20, 2007
Toronto, ON

Hello Kittens, HAPPY SPRING! The sun is finally a shinin' in beautiful Toronto, although it still seems to be a bit nippy out there in the frozen department. I suppose the thaw will come eventually and there's not too much we can do to stop it... What are you all doing today? I'm thinking a nice stroll might be in order followed by a minor amount of responsible shopping and then my flamenco dance class at 5:30. The moment of Equinox is at 8:07pm EST this evening and I will SO need to be having as toast to the end of a sweet and intense winter and the beginning of the glory of the great new season.

Happy melting,

xo

February 2, 2006
Poplar Beach, ON

Am currently in writing hibernation at the cottage on Lake Huron. Warm fires and cold crashing waves beneath the gloomy gloomy gorgeous grey sky... In the name of Groundhog Day woke up at the crack of dawn to see if I could see my shadow. So- No shadow: it seems that spring might cometh early, after all.

March 22, 2004
Victoria, BC

Finally it's Spring! weeeeeee! Ohhh how Victoria always feels like coming home. I've been a bit delinquent at updating my adventures of late for a couple reasons. Firstly, California was such a blast.... On my. And I was very distracted by inordinate amounts of Fun. Folk Alliance was truly unbelievable this year and the Little Red Hen room rocked the house!! Thanks so much to everyone who participated. After the conference I headed up to LA with pals Po' Girl and Chris Brown & Kate Fenner for yet another adventure in the City of Angels. Apparently I had more fun that my wee body could handle as I ended up coming down with a super nasty case of strep throat and had to find myself an emergency clinic fast.... Ended up passed out in a Motel 6 in Santa Barbara county for five days on heavy doses of antibiotics for my throat and an ear infection watching nothin' but X Files reruns. La Pauvre K.

But all is oh-so well now and I'm so glad to be back on my beloved Vancouver Island. Time for resting and recuperating and frolicking about the beautiful forests...

There's no place like home.
