Mes Amis,

A million apologies for not being more in touch ... I will so make it up to you. Retroactive tales of Sweetland are coming soon! These tales involve, a giant tank, a mysterious barn, a massive guitar, a pleasure cruise, a sailor suit, a cherry pie and of course, a video camera.

In the meantime, feast your unsuspecting eyeballs upon my first video blog assignment for Roots Music Canada: Kristin Sweetland does Home County Folk Festival!

I've also posted some new shots from my Adventures in Sweetland eternal self-portrait series ... here.

See you soon,

x

London, ON

Just fresh from a brilliant weekend in London playing at the Home County Folk Festival! We said aurevoir this evening in true folky style with a rousing version of Goodnight Irene in the rain ... Rocked the mainstage Saturday night w/Captain Dirt on bass, and sported the brand new polka-dot apron I bought at one of the craft vendors! Um ... hot. Other weekend highlights included: A sweet instrumental workshop with Don Ross  and the Foggy Hogtown Boys, a band photo shoot on top of the Holy Roller, Victoria Park's famous tank and a craft booth of candles that looked exactly like desserts. I mean, cherry pies, chocolate sundaes and the whole world of cupcakes ... dude, it was impressive.

Not to mention, this weekend marked my first gig as embedded reporter for Roots Music Canada! I'll be putting together video blogs of all the festivals I attend this summer ... From a Sweetlandish perspective, of course. Took lots of footage and interviewed a whole host of characters. Can't wait to edit! The polished video will surface soon on www.rootsmusic.ca. Stay tuned.

Captain Dirt & The Skirt go for a ride.

I am exhausted.... oh my, has it ever been a crazy week! Just got home from the yearly Ontario Council of Folk Festivals conference that was held in London this year. Much fun was had! Got to see some of my dearest pals, played some fine showcases - much thanks to Richard Flohil, Nutshell Music and Home County Folk Festival for hosting me this year. And I was so busy I didn't even take any photos!
In other news, I am so pleased to report that the new CD is all manufactured and looking positively gorgeous! Get yer credit cards ready as they will go on sale Tuesday morning, October 30th at Midnight!

Happy New Year sweety-pies. I've been having a grand ol' time in Metropolitan Torontonia for the past couple of days. Played and AMAZING show at Hugh's Room last night called "Girls Play Boys" with the delicious likes of Katherine Wheatley, Arlene Bishop, Suzie Vinnick (who SO rocked the house with her Supertramp-express) and many more... Got to dress up in a girlie-tux with bowtie and sing Leadbelly songs all night. I absolutely loved it. Now I'm off to lounge in front of the telly for some quality repeats of Angel, coffee to the max and some serious relax-n-recuperation time... Mmmmm Angel.

My, it's been SO long since I wrote... shame on me! I guess that means I've been supremely and excellently busy in the best possible way. So far the summer has been truly good to me, festivals, lounging, forest adventures, sleeping in...Mmmmmm. I've also been working hard on booking for the fall, winter and spring and am planning visits to New England, Virginia, the Carolinas, Tennessee, the Southwest US, California, BC, the far reaches of Ont-errible and justa 'bout everything in between. Yayyyy roadtrip!! Most fondest memories of the past few weeks include an incredible weekend at Mariposa with the delicious likes of James Keelaghan, Bob Snider, Michael Wrycraft, Anne Lindsay, Jason Fowler, Jim Moray and the Wailin' Jennies wailin' out the 80s tunes around the piano till all wee hours... Oh my. This past weekend at Home County was true heaven!! The hometown festival proved very fruitful and fun as all heck. Spent much time dancing with the one and only Darlene (and her mighty hula hoop) to the late night croonin' of Jackie Washington ( who played on and on and on and on.... What a guy.) Next adventures will take me to Vermont to perform at my good friend Chris Jones' venue the Eclipse Theater with two of my very favourite players (and people...) Zubot and Dawson. Yay roly-poly hills and Moo Moos and red barns... Rural yum, here I come.
